Abbotsford Long Day Care Centre has installed solar panels thanks to the Morrison Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.

Dr Fiona Martin MP, Member for Reid, is pleased to support the Centre’s strong focus on environmental sustainability through the $9,739 federal government grant.

“When I visited Abbotsford Long Day Care Centre, staff showed me the practical ways they are teaching environmental responsibility to children from a young age,” Dr Martin stated.

“I am proud that the Morrison Government is supporting their initiatives to be environmentally sustainable, knowing that this sets an important example to our children.”

The Centre Administrator, Ms. Debbie Lawler, is pleased that this grant will help reduce the Centre’s carbon footprint and electricity costs.

“The installation of our new solar panels is part of a strong ongoing commitment to sustainable practices,” Ms. Lawler said.

“This grant allows us to provide the children and families of the community with a great foundation and awareness of environmental responsibility.”

“It will also reduce our electricity costs, meaning we can spend more on equipment for the children and improvements to our facilities without having to increase childcare costs. It’s a big win-win for the community.”

“As a non-profit childcare service we have a very tight budget. We would not have been able to undertake this project without some assistance, and we are grateful for the Morrison Government’s contribution.”

The funds were delivered through Round 5 of the Stronger Communities Programme.
To apply to Round 6 of the Stronger Communities Programme, email before 26 February 2021 to submit an expression of interest.
