Improving Safety at Gap Park

Wednesday, 10 October 2018
The Coalition Government has committed $500,000 towards improving the safety and accessibility of the Coastal Walk at Gap Park.

“This Government is all about keeping Australians safe. Today’s announcement builds on the efforts of Malcolm Turnbull and others who have fought for improvements to reduce incidents of self-harm in the area,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

“Improving the lighting on the Coastal walk will deliver significant benefits for the community as well as for the Eastern Suburbs Local Area Command. Good lighting is essential for response time, and response time is everything in terms of interventions,” Liberal Candidate for Wentworth Dave Sharma said.

 This funding will enable Council to undertake three phases of improvements;
  • Phase 1; Increasing the lighting along the pathway within Gap Park. ($150K)
  • Phase 2; Installation of lighting from the southern end of Gap Park to Christison Park. ($250K)
  • Phase 3; Installation of lighting from the coastal pathway at Christison Park to Old South Head Road. ($100K)
 The funding will add to existing work underway to improve the lighting in the area from Gap Park in the north to the end of Christison Park in the South.
