First elected in 1999, Don Harwin serves as Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council.
Don takes a particular interest in local issues in Sydney’s inner city, inner west and eastern beaches, as well as the Shoalhaven in regional NSW. He has supported the development of transport solutions for the inner city such as the CBD and South East light rail project, and the WestConnex project. He is a passionate advocate for upgrading the Princes Highway along the South Coast.
Don is also the Patron of the Friends of the La Perouse Museum and the Australasian Study of Parliament Group (NSW), and is the Vice Patron of the Commonwealth Day Council of NSW. He is also a director of the Australia Youth Trust. He has served as a Member of the NSW Sesquicentenary of Responsible Government Committee from 2002 until the project was completed in 2006 and on the board of the NSW State Records Authority, which oversees the archiving of all important records relating to the administration of the state between 2006 and 2012.
Don has a strong interest in issues relating to the LGBTIQ communities, psephological matters and political history. He has authored chapters in several books about politics in NSW.
